THE FORMS OF MEMORY
The Forms of Memory provide an introduction to the National Archaeological Museum of Aquileia, one of the most important structures in Italy. It takes us on a journey through time, beginning with the history of the ancient Roman colony of Aquileia, founded in 181 B.C. and always a crucial point for trade and dealings between the West and East Mediterranean Sea and between the Alps and the Sea. It passes from the antiquarian passion of the Friulan canon Giandomenico Bertoli, who began collecting epigraphs and finds, to the organizational qualities of Enrico Maionica, the first director, in 1882, of the Caesareum Museum Aquileiense, and continues up to the present museum. It offers, unusual within the Italian museum situation, the possibility of visiting not only the rooms of the permanent exibition but the Storehouses which collect and classify the material that the old town continues to provide. A huge legacy, still little known, which represent, however, our distant roots; forms of memory of a past in which one can recognize the present. The documentary is made possible by the collaboration between the Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Management of the National Archaeological Museum of Aquileia.
